Overview
If you've ever wanted to experience true grandeur, look no further… the mountain kingdom of North America awaits your discovery! Wrangell St. Elias National Park is the largest national park in America, and also one of the least visited. Here you'll find endless wilderness, peaks unnamed and unclimbed, clear mountain streams, undisturbed wildlife, and ultimate solitude.
Kennicott Wilderness Guides can introduce you to this pristine area, whether you're a first time hiker, a seasoned backpacker seeking a rugged adventure, or a mountaineer hoping to climb a remote peak. KWG guides have spent years hiking and climbing in these mountains and take pride in an intimate knowledge of the wilderness they call home. Kennicott Wilderness Guides has been pioneering new routes through this park since 1995 - exploring places where people don't go, routes you won't find on any website, and special corners that aren't in any guidebooks.
Trips range in length from a five-hour walk on the glacier behind the office to a 17-day expedition on the highest peak in the Wrangell Mountains. Explore a glacier, learn to ice climb, fly into a remote valley for a backpacking adventure, enroll in a mountaineering course, or climb to the top of one of Alaska's giant peaks.
Kennicott Wilderness Guides is one of the few guide services in Alaska that can offer winter tours as well. Waterfall ice climbing, backcountry skiing and snowboarding, ski touring, and endless mountaineering opportunities exist during Alaska's winter months. If you're a winter enthusiast, come see why Kennicott Wilderness Guides sticks around Alaska when the snow begins to fly!
Why Choose KWG? Kennicott Wilderness Guides is a close-knit group of locally grown mountaineers and year round Alaskans who have operated this guide service as a way of living for over 12 years. In contrast to other companies that offer trips in Wrangell St. Elias, KWG is not a giant company with dozens of guides that are new to Alaska, nor are they a hyped-up one man show. Guides are seasoned local residents that have been returning year after year and have a personal connection to this area. Kennicott Wilderness Guides embodies the hospitality and spirit of this land that they call home in their highest capacity. Guides have a minimum of WFR medical training, carry extensive first aid kits and satellite phones, and have a solid safety record that reflects a professionalism and attention to detail.
Kennicott Wilderness Guides believes in traveling lightly and prides themselves on setting the standard for wildlife and safety protocols in this young national park. All guides are trained in wilderness medical care, carry extensive first aid kits and satellite phones, are experienced backcountry cooks, and have wilderness savvy.
KWG has the lowest client to guide ratio of any guide service operating out of the McCarthy - Kennicott area, resulting in a much safer and higher quality experience for guests. Kennicott Wilderness Guides prides themselves on small groups, customized itineraries, personalized service, and locally grown guides. A trip with Kennicott Wilderness Guides won't leave you feeling "lost in the crowd". Kennicott Wilderness Guides can also work with you to organize package deals that make your vacation planning much easier. Let Kennicott Wilderness Guides show you the wilderness experience of a lifetime!
